<p>Over the past few years I had been trying to find a way to show the relationship of the dwindling iconic pines that grace the shoreline of the Boundary Waters lakes. On this particular night I was fishing for trout on Ram Lake when I noticed the distant shoreline was beautifully illuminated by the setting sun. I quickly paddled towards a grouping of twisted spruce trees I had noticed earlier and composed them into the foreground to provide tonal separation. To me, this image represents the essence of the northwoods. These boreal forests are changing at an alarming rate and it is a matter of time before forests like this wont be found in Minnesota.
