Los bestsellers del New York Times y USA Today

Si usted es un lector/a que no se conforma con los libros que intentan venderle obligatoriamente las grandes editoriales de su país y que saturan los centros comerciales y librerías, si piensa que hay vida literaria más allá de la novela histórica, tan explotada en algunos países (como España), si cree que hay títulos que merecen ser leídos al margen de prejuicios diversos….¡Enhorabuena! Está usted en el camino para no ser un lector/a encasillado y estar abierto a las múltiples posibilidades que ofrece el mercado global.
Les dejo con las listas de bestsellers del New York Times y USA Today de septiembre, que es como decir del arranque del otoño-invierno literario. Hay muy buenas novelas en estas listas que merecen ser leídas con atención. Si no puede hacerlo ahora en inglés, espere la traducción al español, son libros que no le defraudarán.

FICTION

2. A Stolen Life by Jaycee Dugard. The author’s recollections of being kidnapped at 11 and spending 18 years imprisoned by her captor.
3. Unbroken by Laura Hillenbrand. An Olympic runner’s story of survival as a prisoner of the Japanese in World War II.
4. In the Garden of Beasts by Erik Larson. A portrait of Berlin during the rise of the Nazis, centering on William E. Dodd, who became U.S. ambassador there in 1933.
5. The Immortal Life of Henrietta Lacks by Rebecca Skloot. An impoverished woman’s cancer cells were extensively cultured without her permission in 1951.

6. Bossypants by Tina Fey. Humorous personal essays from the creator of «30 Rock.»
7. After America by Mark Steyn. The writer predicts Armageddon for America, which he says has caught up with Europe in a rush to self-destruction.
8. Cocktail Hour Under the Tree of Forgetfulness by Alexandra Fuller. Fuller’s mother, Nicola, is at the center of this memoir, set in Africa.
9. The Greater Journey by David McCullough. The historian explores the intellectual influence left by France on its 19th-century American visitors.
10. 1493 by Charles C. Mann. Picking up where «1491» left off, the author says ecological encounters since Columbus have affected much of subsequent human history.
