Ya se han hecho públicos los nominados a la 45ta edición de los Premios de la Academia de Música Country (ACM), que tendrá lugar el domingo 18 de abril. El trío Lady Antebellum encabeza estas nominaciones con siete candidaturas, seguidos por Miranda Lambert y Carrie Underwood, que han conseguido seis nominaciones cada una. Les siguen Taylor Swift con cinco nominaciones, Kenny Chesney y Brad Paisley con cuatro cada uno. George Strait, uno de los más grandes cantantes country vivos, vuelve a competir como mejor artista del año.
Zac Brown Band también consiguió cuatro nominaciones y su líder, Brown, obtuvo otras dos individualmente.
Las nominaciones fueron hechas públicas a principios de marzo por Reba McEntire y Blake Shelton en el programa «The Early Show» de la CBS.
Lady Antebellum competirá en cinco apartados con su éxito «Need You Now», incluyendo mejor sencillo, canción y video del año, además de mejor grupo vocal y álbum del año por su CD debut, «Lady Antebellum».
El trío, compuesto por Hillary Scott, Charles Kelley y Dave Haywood, arrastra una gran racha de éxitos; en julio de 2009 con «I Run To You» alcanzó el número 1 en las listas, y ya llevaban vendidos más de tres millones de discos con su primer álbum de debut. En noviembre, ganaron dos premios de la Asociación de la Música Country (CMA), y tanto el sencillo «Need You Now’‘ como el álbum homónimo han superado toda expectativa de ventas, colocando el primer sencillo en lo más alto de las listas.
Lady Antebellum se formó en el año 2006, después de un encuentro entre Hillary Scott con Charles Kelley y Dave Haywood; estos últimos son viejos amigos.
El segundo disco con el que compiten en estos premios, está formado esencialmente por canciones de amor a medio tiempo, baladas, y alguna canción con un poco más de ritmo; todos los temas han sido escritos o coescritos con algunos de los mejores compositores de la música country de Nashville. Con un sonido entre tradicional y moderno, Lady Antebellum está llegando a todo tipo de público. De ellos les recomiendo especialmente «Need you Now» y «Run to You«, dos canciones poderosas y muy buenas.

En la ceremonia del 18 de abril en el MGM Grand Garden Arena Las Vegas, George Strait, Carrie Underwood, Kenny Chesney, Taylor Swift, Brad Paisley, Zac Brown Band, Keith Urban y Toby Keith, se disputarán el máximo honor, el premio al mejor artista del año.
Carrie Underwood ganó el año pasado esta categoría, una de las cinco que elige el público por votación popular. Si gana de nuevo este año, sería la primera mujer en lograr esta hazaña dos años consecutivos.
La artista de Oklahoma también compite por el que sería su cuarto premio consecutivo a mejor vocalista femenina; lo hace en abierta competencia con Taylor Swift, Miranda Lambert, Reba McEntire y Lee Ann Womack; también compite por mejor álbum del año por «Play On».
